Richmond's Newest Jewel

Art installation by Joshua Wiener
To celebrate the Back-to-School Day in our area, Uncle Grumpy and I explored the T. Tyler Potterfield Memorial Bridge that was dedicated in December 2016.  We entered from the Manchester side (south of the Rivah) and enjoyed the morning shade gracing the initial part of this pathway that leads you past the climbing wall to the bridge itself.
Kudzu cushioning abounds

If you explore the bridge on a typical hot, blistering day in RVA, remember that you can find respite along this shady spot.
By traveling from the south, familiar sights of the city are immediately showcased:
Virginia War Memorial
Hollywood Cemetery
and, of course, the Richmond skyline:

For history lovers, the background information on the bridge's significance is mostly found at its north entrance, which is accessed via the Belle Isle footbridge.  I'm hoping that this entrance is accessible for folks using wheelchairs because the three flights of steps we descended from our parking area on the Manchester side of the bridge would definitely not qualify as accessible.

However, that parking lot is directly across the street from Legend Brewing Company...

A thoughtful pause for history

There are several bump-outs where you can make way for cyclists and other visitors to pass
while you linger over the views of the city and James River.
